BS EN 206 targets discharge within 90 minutes of water meeting cement at the plant. A 20–30 mile run plus a site queue can consume 45–75 of those minutes before you start.

Our 2025 cost guide puts standard C20 at roughly £90–£120 per m³ and C40 at £130+ per m³. Most ready-mix suppliers add a full-load minimum and a short-load surcharge, and standard advice is to order 5–10% over your calculated volume for waste. Because we meter what is actually discharged, that waste allowance is not something you pay for in advance.
It is the same product to the same standards — C8 to C40 batched to BS EN 206 and BS 8500 — mixed on your site rather than at a plant. If your specification calls for a designated GEN or RC mix or a designed mix, we supply it. What changes is the delivery method and the billing, not the concrete.
Under BS EN 206 the discharge clock starts when water meets cement at the batching plant, and best practice targets 90 minutes. Hot weather shortens it. By the time a drum wagon has run 20–30 miles and queued on site, 45–75 minutes can already have gone. Mixing on site removes that constraint entirely.
For most domestic foundations, driveways and garage floors, C25 (GEN3) is the standard choice; C20 is adequate for light-traffic driveways but C25 resists cracking better. Multiply length by width by depth in metres for the volume in cubic metres. A 5m × 3m slab at 100mm is 1.5m³. Standard guidance is to add 5–10% for spillage and ground-level variation — though with metered supply you can order at your calculated figure and top up if the ground takes more.
