Boom pump or line pump — which do I need?
A boom pump has a folding arm that places concrete up and over obstacles — roofs, upper floors, across a building. A line pump moves concrete through a hose along the ground into places a truck cannot reach, like back gardens and basements. If the problem is height or an obstacle, you need a boom. If the problem is distance through a narrow route, you need a line pump.
What access does a boom pump need?
Firm, level ground for the outriggers, enough room to set up and deploy, and clear space overhead — overhead cables are the usual blocker. We survey the access before booking so the pump that turns up is the one that can actually set up on your site.
Can you supply the concrete as well as the pump?
Yes, and it is normally better to book both together. The concrete is mixed on site as it is pumped, so the mix stays fresh right up to placement and the pump is never standing while a wagon is stuck in traffic.
Can a boom pump be used on a domestic job?
It can, but for most domestic pours a line pump is the more appropriate and less expensive answer. Boom pumps earn their cost where height or an obstacle rules out every other route to the pour.
