A new floor in a lived-in Harrogate home, with no depth to spare.
A private customer in Harrogate needed a new floor laid in their property, and a screed that would give a flat, level base ready for the floor covering they had already chosen.
The priorities were the ones most modern homes share. A clean, accurate finish. Minimal disruption on what is a lived-in residential street with neighbours either side. And a screed that would not eat into the floor build-up, because every millimetre the screed takes is a millimetre of insulation or headroom that has to come from somewhere else.
That last constraint is what rules out a traditional sand and cement screed before the conversation really starts.
Why liquid screed, and why Gypsol Classic.
Gypsol Classic is a self-levelling, self-compacting anhydrite screed. It is poured as a liquid rather than laid and worked by hand, and that single change carries a run of practical advantages over sand and cement.
It finds its own level, so the finish is consistent and flat without hand screeding or power floating, and it flows fully around and over the substrate with no air pockets. On a floor with underfloor heating in it, that means intimate contact with the pipes and the thermal transfer that follows from it.
It is also a lighter, thinner, cleaner floor. Roughly 80kg per square metre at 40mm, comfortably below the equivalent traditional screed, with typical strengths of C25 to C35 and above. And the binder is around 98% recycled content, carrying up to 88% less CO₂ than a cement based screed, which is worth having on any modern build.

The screed was the straightforward part. Doing it cleanly in someone’s home was the job.
Procon supplied 5m³ of Gypsol Classic on a brand new 26 plate volumetric wagon, mixing it fresh on arrival and placing it at the reduced depth the product allows.
We also supplied the line pump on the same order. That is the part domestic customers usually end up organising themselves, ringing round for a pump, matching it to a delivery slot and hoping the two turn up together. Here it was one supplier, one order and one arrival for both the screed and the means to place it, with nothing to arrange separately and nobody to chase.
Pumping the screed directly into the property kept the work tidy and quick, and meant no barrowing and no mess through the home. The pour went in smoothly and left a flat, level finish ready for the customer’s floor covering.
Because the job was on a residential street, care around the neighbouring properties mattered as much as the screed itself. The driver positioned the new wagon precisely and worked considerately around the neighbours throughout. On a domestic job that detail is not a nice-to-have, it is most of what the customer remembers.
